Our journey
YE (Yderst Europe) is a pioneering international photojournalistic initiative championing 'slow' journalism.
We dedicate ourselves to amplifying the quiet knowledge and voices emanating from native communities, coastal regions, and those deeply connected with nature. Our work delves into Europe's interactions with its surrounding oceans, highlighting the importance of these relationships.
By 2050, with 82% of the EU's population projected to reside in urban centers, YE aims to bridge the gap between our urbanized society and the rich stories of remote rural coastal areas. Starting from an archipelago in Arctic Norway—a place where a 10,000-year-old coastal culture thrives against the backdrop of the Arctic winds—YE documents the lives of communities at Europe's fringes. From the Arctic expanses of Norway to the western coasts of France, we journey along the European coastline, uncovering stories where the continental shelf meets the deep, nurturing marine life.
Supported by the EU Commission, which recognizes YE's potential to reshape the European sustainability debate, we are committed to producing reportages across Europe. Our efforts will culminate in a book slated for release in spring 2025 and will be showcased through on-stage performances, animations, digital productions, and social media engagements in collaboration with LIVE Magazine Paris.
Yderst Europe is a vast ocean of stories. Through our encounters, we narrate the larger narrative through the lens of individual experiences, exploring the lessons history offers on sustainability, our current interactions with the oceans, and the paths toward equilibrium.
